Instant Success

People say there is no such thing as instant success, but Isay that
there is.
Success is a way of thinking.

Success has to do with how you feel. You may have a lot of money,
but if your thoughts and emotions have you in a terrible
state, then you really aren't successful. Why do people
achieve goals? Why do entrepreneurs start businesses? They
do it because they believe it will make them feel a certain
way. They will feel accomplished, victorious, joyful, or
free.

Success is in the mind. People tell themselves that they
will feel successful when they get the money, obtain the
right job, find their perfect mate, or lose the weight.
Success is a someday thing in this context. Someday never
comes.

Success is a gift you give to yourself. It is a way of
thinking. Success thinking creates the emotions of success
including joy, peace, personal pride, self respect,
freedom, and gratitude.

If you do not see or feel yourself as successful right now,
you are but a thought away from it. Success is one thought
away from where you are right now. The distance between
your current thoughts and success thoughts may seem
overwhelming. This is due to your physiology. You see,
constant repetition of negative thoughts (blaming,
complaining, victimized, anger, etc.) trains your body to
react in certain ways. Physiologically, you are wired to
feel the way that you do. Constant practice of negativity
and doubt build those emotions into your body. Your
physiological responses can be changed.

Since we are often battling physiology when we attempt to
make changes, it is the body we must employ as our change
agent. Here are some steps you can use to create success:

1. First, there must be an intention to succeed. Failure
and giving up have payoffs we must be willing to give up.
We must be willing to take responsibility for our own
lives. When we intend to create success we recognize that
our success, past, present, or future, is not up to anyone
else. No one can stop you from being successful.

2. Following up on your intention, there must be a
decision you make to succeed. You make this decision every
day. Every time you experience disappointment or setbacks,
you decide again to succeed.

3. You must envision success. It is important to write out
a vision that includes what your life would look like. More
importantly, you need a vision that articulates what kind
of person you want to be. Words like confident, loving,
compassionate, forgiving, helpful, competent, joyful,
tenacious, graceful, grateful and others come to mind. In
this vision of your success, who are you being?

4. Focus on the feelings that you believe are part of
being successful. If you were successful right now---if you
felt totally successful right now--how would you be sitting
in your chair? What would your posture be like? How would
you carry yourself? Get up out of your seat and walk across
the room. How would you walk? Go greet someone or talk to
someone on the telephone. How would you greet and talk to
someone if you were successful?

5. Consciously bring the feelings and thoughts of success
into every part of your body in each of the parts of your
life. In other words, you are not looking for success--you
are being success.

Some may say that that's nice, but it is play acting. It is
like living in a dream world. This is true. You are acting
and it is living in your dream world. Success comes from
the inside out. In order to create your successful world
you must first live in it in your mind.

So, if you want a promotion, how would you walk and talk if
you were already in that position? How would you deal with
people? How would you approach your work? If you were a
great leader with big responsibility and compensation to
match, would you be tracking how many hours you work each
week? Would you be gossiping about your coworker? Or, would
you be fully engaged in the moment, making decisions that
benefit the highest good for the organization? Would you be
complaining about how unfair certain people or situations
are, or would you be envisioning positive situations and
taking constructive steps to create them?

Someone said to me: "I can play at being successful but I'm
really not. I still don't have the money I need. I still
don't have the influence I need. I don't have time for
games like these." This reaction is common and
understandable. My first question is: "How much money,
influence and love have you gained by worry or by feeling
sorry for yourself?" Generally speaking, other people are
not going to help you be successful because they feel sorry
for you. People gravitate toward success. Whether you want
others to buy from you, vote for you, listen to you, or
join with you, they are going to be more interested if you
are successful. If you see yourself and feel yourself as
successful, others will agree with you. Motivational
writers and speakers call it: "Fake it until you make it."

Personally I don't think we are faking it at all. That
confident and joyful person we envision is who we really
are. As we set aside the negative thoughts and emotions of
blaming, complaining, resentment, and general unforgiveness
we expose who we really are. You are already a success. If
you can imagine it and feel it, you can be it.

Give yourself the gift of instant success right now. Sit,
stand or somehow begin moving as if you are already
successful. Practice will build the positive emotions of
success into your physiology. Your body will become wired
for success. It will truly be the servant of a success
oriented mind. As you move forward in confidence your outer
conditions will begin to change to reflect your inner
success.

Migraine Headaches - The Critical First Ten Minutes

What you do in the opening minutes about the migraine may very well
determine how long it lasts and how severe it will be.

Anyone who has ever experienced migraine headaches knows
how painful and tortuous life can be after a migraine
begins. One never knows if the headache, once it begins,
will turn into one of those migraine headaches that can
leave someone incapacitated for hours or for days.

What makes decisions by people who suffer with migraine
headaches particularly difficult is the fact that migraines
can be confused with other headaches early on. And, people
with migraine headaches are just as likely to develop other
common types of headaches like sinus and tension headaches
like everyone else.

To those who experience these debilitating migraine
headaches, the decisions made in the first ten minutes -
are the most critical.

When a migraine headache first appears, two emotional
reactions occur: The first is, "Oh, God, not another
migraine!", and the second is dreaded anticipation of many
hours of misery, pain, lying down in a dark room, and
forced seclusion from spouses, children, work and social
activities.

To be proactive right from the onset however, a series of
questions that must be asked:

? Is this a sinus, tension or migraine headache?

? Is there an "aura" for those who normally experience one,
that would normally signal the onset of their migraine
headaches?

? Is this migraine severe enough to justify taking action?

? Should I take any (triptan) medication or not?

The answers to these questions will subsequently determine
the outcome of this migraine.

Under traditional medication management, the popular
migraine medications today are called triptans. These
triptan medications have brand names like Imitrex®,
Amerge®, Maxalt®, Zomig®, Relpax®, Avert® and Frova®.

Triptan medications have the best possibility of stopping
migraine headaches quickly if taken within the first 30
minutes, and especially, within the first 10 minutes. The
sooner they are taken, the better the result to obtain
migraine headache relief.

Unfortunately the decision to take these triptan
medications is not as easy as one would think:

? Triptan medications have very significant and
uncomfortable side effects.

? They are extremely expensive ? a single triptan pill can
cost up to $70 or more.

? If taken too often, they lose their effectiveness.

Failure to take a triptan medication (that still works) in
the critical first few minutes in what turns out to be a
migraine headache virtually guarantees a significant,
severe and long lasting headache.

In a valiant effort to achieve migraine pain relief people
end up taking their triptan medications several hours after
it starts. They mostly endure the side effects of the
medications and have very little effect. Nevertheless,
most will try to take a medication, even if it is too late.

There is another option ? a migraine cure. Cure the
migraine and never worry about the critical ten minutes
again.

Recent reports indicate that there is indeed a cure for
migraine headaches. A number of elite medical clinics that
cater to women have reported this. Under their treatment
protocols, migraines go away completely in 80% of these
women.

The successes are limited to women only. Addressing
women's hormones is the basis of the migraine cure. Some
clinics have published their treatment protocols and even
made them available to the public.

The Women's Health Institute of Texas believes a migraine
cure certainly eliminates the critical ten minutes
altogether and triptans may be no longer be necessary ? at
least in women.

Can't Lose Weight? It's Time to Stop Feeding Your Demons

When you can't lose weight, the answer may be simple. Or it may be hard.

Maybe you really are just eating a little too much. Simple.
Cut back.

Maybe you just turned 40 and as much as you hate to admit
it, you'll never have the body you had 20 years ago. Hard
to admit, but with the right diet, you can still have a
slimmer figure.

But what if you've had a long -- maybe even a lifelong --
battle with weight. And by that, I mean a serious weight
problem, not just five pounds or so.

I'm not a doctor, I'm not a psychologist, I'm not a
psychiatrist. And I'm not giving medical advice.

But I have observed enough people over the years to form
this opinion.

For people with lifelong weight loss problems, the right
diet can help. But it's usually not about dieting. Because
it's not about the food.

Think about it.

Are you lonely, angry, depressed? Do you feel guilty,
rejected, inferior? Or even unworthy of love or success?

Do you seek comfort in food because people let you down? Or
maybe you feel like you've let yourself down?

Have you tried every diet there is and nothing seems to
work? Or at least not for long?

Then consider this. When you dive into that box of
chocolates, is it food or an escape?

Maybe there's a sexual assault in your past. Maybe kids
teased you mercilessly when you were young. Maybe family
members always made you feel inferior. Maybe an ex-spouse
-- or a current spouse -- made you feel unwanted and
unloved.

You didn't fight back. Maybe you couldn't -- literally,
couldn't.

So you turned to food. For comfort. For escape. For an
excuse to drive people away.

Because when you're fat, it's okay to be shy. To be
different. To be alone.

It still hurts. But at least, you have an excuse to hide.

You say you want to lose weight, you go on diet after diet,
but when things get tough...

... you seek refuge in food. And it starts all over again.

So ask yourself this.

If you could go back to the one incident or the series of
events or the period of time that led to your weight
problem, would you choose to relive it all again just as it
happened?

Or if you had the chance, would you change it?

Because every time you escape with food, you make the
choice to feed your demons.

To relive whatever it is that hurts you.

To give people who bullied or hurt you the power to do it
all over again. And again. And again.

So you have a choice to make. To relive or to live.

It's that simple. And that hard.

If you can't do it alone, seek out a trusted friend. Or
better yet, a trained professional.

But ultimately, the choice is yours. Choose to let go.

Choose to live.

Nail Fungus (onychomycosis)

Nail fungus or onychomycosis is an infection of the nails
occurring both on the hands and feet but certainly more
prevalent on the feet due to the environment that feet find
themselves in. Nail fungus generally thrive in dark, moist
environments, so when you consider wearing shoes and socks
all day along with perspiration that occurs, it ends up
being a perfect growth media for nail fungus.

The true, tough to get rid of nail fungus, actually grows
underneath the nail. As it grows, it forces the nail up
off the nail bed and the nail becomes thick, crumbly and
discolored ranging in color from yellow to brown. There
may also be an odor. It is not uncommon for these infected
nails to then spread to the remaining healthy nails on the
foot. It is also not uncommon for nails to fall off and
unfortunately, in most cases grow back the same way if not
properly treated.

Aside from the unsightly appearance of the nail fungus,
other problems can arise. Having nail fungus makes most
people more prone to developing athlete's foot of the skin.
(The opposite also holds true). Additionally, thick
fungal nails can be uncomfortable in closed shoes as they
feel like rocks underneath the top of the shoe. These
infections can make people more susceptible to secondary
bacterial infections as they exacerbate the formation of
ingrown nails, plus the sheer distortion of the nails tends
to irritate the healthy skin of the adjacent toes causing
abrasions that can become infected. This is especially
dangerous in people who suffer from diabetes or have poor
circulation.

Treatment can be difficult because of the fact that fungus
thrives in "dark moist environments". Eliminating those
factors can go a long way to reducing recurrence.

Many patients ask me if the infected nail has to be
removed. The only time I remove them is if they are
already partially loose. If the onychomycotic nail is
adhered to the nail bed I no longer advocate removal of the
nail because the simple truth is, just removing a nail all
the way back to its growth plate will cause the nail to
grow out with a degree of thickness even if there is no
fungus present.

There are both oral and topical medication treatments. The
gold standard for treating onychomycosis in an otherwise
healthy individual is the oral therapy. The most widely
prescribed medication today is Lamisil tablets (Novartis),
although there are certainly other oral antifungals that
can be used. The newer generation of oral antifungals is
very safe medications if properly used. Your doctor may
prescribe one or two blood tests during the course of
therapy to make sure there are no adverse effects.
Additionally, your doctor should take a sampling of the
nail and have it tested to confirm that it is true nail
fungus. Visual inspection is not the proper way to make a
diagnosis.

Although topical treatments are available, they tend to be
less effective. The main problem, as stated earlier, is
that fungus grows underneath the nail; so applying
medication to the top of the nail becomes an effort in
futility. Trying to force the medication underneath the
nail rarely works.

The best way to use topical medication is to see a foot
specialist who will grind down and cut away as much of the
diseased nail as possible (a painless procedure), so that
the topical medication will penetrate to the live fungus
more readily. This can become a tedious process as the
medication generally has to be applied twice a day by the
patient, (being lazy about it defeats the whole purpose)
and then the nail has to be ground down on a regular basis.
The other problem is that depending on the degree of
fungus this process can take upwards of a year. The other
problem is that the greater the number of nails that are
infected, the less the likelihood is of clearing them all
up with the topical medication. Having said that, I have
seen some very gratifying results with topical medication.
